This is a question and anwser time during a presidential confrence. Helen Thomas is a white house reporter asking President Bush "THE HARD QUESTIONS".
HELEN THOMAS: My question is, why did you really want to go to war, from the moment you stepped into the White House, from your cabinet, former cabinet officers, intelligence people and so forth? What was your real reason? You have said it wasn't oil. It hasn't been Israel or anything else. What was it?
Pesident Bush: ...Everything you may have heard is that but it's just simply not true. My attitude about the defense of this country changed on September the 11th. We — when we got attacked, I vowed then and there to use every asset at my disposal to protect the American people...That's why I went into Iraq....I also saw a threat in Iraq. I was hoping to solve this problem diplomatically. That's why I went to the Security Council. That's why it was important to pass 1441, which was unanimously passed. And the world said disarm, disclose, or face serious consequences.
Ok all you people out there calling Bush a war monger and wanting to attack Iraq from the day he took office look at that last sentance and tell me President Bush really wanted war. He gave Iraq every possible out, the world as a whole came before Iraq and said 'listen up, disarm and let us look over your shoulder to make sure you are doing it or we will come in and make you'. If there were no WMDs why didn't Iraq let us come in and turn around and laugh in our faces? does anyone that says there were no WMDs realize the size and texture of that country? IT'S A DESERT PEOPLE!!!! how hard is it to dig a whole and put a bomb in it for no one ever to find?
President Bush didn't what to go to war and he didn't want our men and women over there fighting but his hand was forced. If Bush does go forward with military force in Iran it's cause again his hand is forced. We are talking to Iran 24/7 trying to get a peacful resolution but when the country says it's their goal to destroy Isreal and is working toward nuclear weapons I tend to think that is something that would force the hand of a US President no matter who it is.
So what do we learn from this? President Bush is getting sick of left wing people that have no idea what they are talking about attacking his character and motivation. His motivation is the protection of this country and his character is in tact, which is much more then i can say for the last left wing President. |
